Patrick Wilson – Death Valley
Hottest, driest, lowest: Death Valley is a land of extremes. It is one of the hottest places on the surface of the Earth with summer temperatures averaging well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. It encompasses the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere at 282 feet below the level of the sea, and it is the driest place in North America with an average rainfall of only 1.96 inches a year.
MTV appears to be on the comeback tip in recent weeks. “Awkward.” is proving to be quite a nice distraction and is actually a very interesting teen comedy series. Before that, there was “Teen Wolf” and “The Hard Times of RJ Berger.” “Jersey Shore” is probably my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. And now there is “Death Valley.”
“Death Valley” is an unusual blend of “Cops” and every gory special effects monster movie you could think of that’s been a hit in the last 40 years. “Death Valley” follows the Undead Task Force (UTF), a special unit of the Los Angeles Police Department that specializes in cases that have a supernatural twist to them: monsters. It seems that the “Death Valley” in question is not just home to humans, but also to zombies, werewolves, and vampires. And the cops of this special police unit dispose of each menace accordingly to the traditional horror movie standards (i.e., zombies have to be shot in the head). Continue reading

Patrick Wilson – The Planes of Fame Air Museum
Planes of Fame Air Museum was founded by Mr. Ed Maloney in Claremont, California. The doors first opened on January 12, 1957. At that time, it was simply called “The Air Museum”. There was no need to be more specific, because no other air museums existed in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River.
As the Museum’s collection of aircraft and memorabilia continued to grow, it became necessary to find a new home with enough space to house more aircraft. In 1963, it relocated to nearby Ontario Airport in Ontario, California.
A few years later, in 1970, the non-flyable aircraft became part of the “Movie World: Cars of the Stars and Planes of Fame Museum” in Buena Park, California, located near Knott’s Berry Farm. Concurrently, the flyable aircraft relocated to Chino Airport. When Movie World closed, the name “Planes of Fame” stayed, since it perfectly described Ed Maloney’s museum.
Volunteers at Planes of Fame Air Museum are involved in almost every aspect of the Museum’s operations! Continue reading

The World famous Venice Beach Boardwalk is not to be missed. If you are visiting the Los Angeles area, you owe it to yourself to come to Southern California’s number one visitor attraction. Patrick Wilson – Warner Theatre
Built in 1931 as a Warner Brothers movie palace, the theater was sold in the 1950′s as part of a federally mandated divestment. With business declining and expenses soaring through the 1960′s and 1970′s, deferred maintenance began to take its toll.
Facing certain foreclosure in 1981, the owners closed the Warner and in March of that year put the property on the market for $275,000. With the theater slated for demolition in 1982, a concerned group of citizens formed the not-for-profit Northwest Connecticut Association for the Arts, Inc. to save the theater.
Originally built as a movie house, the ornate Warner Theatre has ebbed in and out of fashion. After a period of neglect, the Kaempfer Company recently spent $10 million to restore the 1,847-seat theater, once owned by Warner Bros., to its 1920s glory.
At the far end of the lobby, a grand staircase leads to the balcony tier. Private boxes line each wall. A sparkling chandelier worth a quarter of a million dollars hangs in the center of a large gilded circle; stained-glass lamps glow from other spots around the theater. Rows of velvet seats embroidered with red and gold brocade sit upon a carpet of matching colors. It’s hard to believe most of the renovation money went toward technical improvements such as a new electrical and rigging system and unblocking a stage left exit route for performers. Patrick Wilson – Veteran’s Stadium
Veterans Stadium is one of the three nondescript, multi-purpose, cold stadiums built in the 60′s and 70′s. It’s a bit bigger than either Three Rivers Stadium or Cinergy Field (Riverfront), but all three feel so similar that it would be easy to forget which one you are in. There is nothing that makes Veterans Stadium unique.
The stadium parking lot hosts The Long Beach Outdoor Antique & Collectible Flea Market from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on the third Sunday of every month.
The Phillies played their first game at the stadium on Saturday, April 10, 1971, beating the Montreal Expos, 4–1, before an audience of 55,352. Jim Bunning (named to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996) was the winning pitcher while Bill Stoneman took the loss. Entertainer Mike Douglas, whose daily talk show was taped in Philadelphia, sang The Star-Spangled Banner before the game. The emcee for the opening ceremonies was newly arrived Harry Kalas. Boots Day opened the game by grounding out to Bunning. Larry Bowa had the stadium’s first hit and Don Money slugged the first home run. Continue reading
